Evert, aged 52 years, is an entrepreneur whom since his early twenties, has had a love for leather.
After a successful career abroad, he returned to his native country of The Netherlands in 2017 to discover that the Leather Scene had dwindled and tolerance towards Leathermen and the LGBTI Community had generally changed for the worse.
Evert has the strong belief that tolerance and acceptance start with visibility and so he spent his time becoming part of the Amsterdam Leather Scene and actively promoted wearing leather in all sorts of situations.
He was voted the first Mr Leather Netherlands in 2018 and used this title to campaign for LGBTI rights whilst promoting leather and diversity. He became visible locally and nationally until he became a well-known figure in the Dutch leather and LGBTI Community.
In 2019 he was voted Mr. Leather Europe and continued his work on a European level. He travelled the world and became a prominent figure for the European Leather Community. He decided that the deteriorating gay rights in Eastern Europe needed special attention and made several trips to the region.
His most epic journey was an overland journey to Russia in his vintage Volkswagen Campervan with which he raised awareness of anti LGBTI legislation in Russia and highlighted the difficult situation for the Russian LGBTI Community, which has indeed, further deteriorated since the war in Ukraine.
Evert completed this by being visible and approachable and he always aims to show leather at its best, as being not just sexy, beautiful, desirable and also as being normal and acceptable.
